Artistic Statement

Vicky P. Lantz

Contemporary American culture claims progressive gender reform, yet we are continuously witnessing nation-wide slut shaming, rape apologists, and misogynistic gender policies. In the wake of extreme and dangerous measures conservative lawmakers are taking against women/women’s health choices, we decided to turn our frustration into a platform of artistic exploration and political performances. We use our bodies, political statements, classical literature and science,  and interactive performance techniques to create pieces that highlight social norms and injustices against women. We infuse all our work with an air of the ridiculous and the absurd.

Angie and Vicky met in graduate school at UW-Madison in 2003. Their first “play date” outside of classes was canvassing for John Kerry’s presidential campaign. It’s been a combination of theatre performances, progressive ideologies, and snarky hilarity every since! Angie and Vicky live ridiculously heteronormative lives, with Angie and her beautiful little family in Chicago and Vicky with her darling husband north of Houston. Whenever possible, they travel together presenting theatre scholarship and/or feminist performance.
